Paleogeomorfologi Formasi Cibodas dan Catatan Temuan Fosil Gigi Hiu di Daerah Gunung Sungging dan Sekitarnya, Kabupaten Sukabumi, Jawa Barat

Fosil gigi hiu ditemukan oleh masyarakat di Desa Gunung Sungging, Kecamatan Surade, Kabupaten Sukabumi, Jawa Barat. Fosil tersingkap pada batupasir tufan, anggota Formasi Cibodas berumur Pliosen dengan lingkungan pengendapan transisi-neritik. Morfologi daerah penyelidikan merupakan dataran sampai perbukitan dan dikontrol oleh struktur sesar normal yang tersingkap di sungai Cikarang. Kajian paleogeomorfologi ditentukan melalui analisis bentangalam, struktur geologi, stratigrafi serta paleontologi. Bentangalam daerah penyelidikan menunjukkan perubahan lingkungan pengendapan dari laut ke darat, yang dibatasi oleh singkapan Formasi Cibodas. Formasi ini terdiri atas satuan batupasir gampingan dan tuf. Sekitar 120 fosil hiu telah dikumpulkan selama penyelidikan lapangan, dan dianalisis berdasarkan karakteristik, morfologi, dan dimensi ukurannya. Fosil gigi Otodus megalodon berjumlah 19 buah, dan 101 buah lainnya adalah jenis gigi non-Otodus megalodon. Semua fosil ditemukan di Formasi Cibodas bagian bawah. Pada kala Pliosen, kawasan ini diinterpretasikan sebagai kawasan teluk dan laguna yang menjadi tempat cocok bagi kehidupan hiu.
